Pedro Pascal Is Bringing Back Dressing up for the Airport

Pedro Pascal won’t be slowing down on dressing up anytime soon. With several major projects on deck, the actor has been making the most of his “fashion daddy” persona while in promo mode. That means whether he’s at a Star Wars convention or an airport en route to the Cannes Film Festival, he’s in the zone, decked out in designer.

The actor—who stars alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone in the Ari Aster film Eddington, which had its Cannes premiere on Friday—arrived at the airport in Nice wearing a pristine ensemble that mostly consisted of brand-spanking-new pieces from Bottega Veneta, including blue jeans, gold-emblemed loafers, and a khaki-twill Harrington jacket. The blouson’s collar was decked out in the Italian luxury house’s signature woven leather design, which matched the enormous, fresh-from-the-box Andiamo bag that Pascal carried over his shoulder. The pristine outfit didn’t look especially lived-in (after a day of travel, his white T-shirt bore nary a wrinkle), but it did look expensive.

Celebrities have been getting photographed at the airport since last century, but only in the last decade or so have those photos had an immediate destination: social media. Online, a famous person’s travel wardrobe seems to project a sense of wanderlusty covetability. Imagine you’re Jacob Elordi, toting a lemon-yellow Louis Vuitton bag after touching down in Venice, or Rami Malek, sporting a biker jacket and Margiela loafers on the ground in Tokyo. (And then there’s Timothée Chalamet, who drummed up buzz for his film, Wonka, by tugging on a latex trench after his own long-haul Tokyo flight.) For brands such as Bottega Veneta, which has a history of staging “candid” paparazzi shots, the airport is a dreamy backdrop for product placement. Just ask Joe Alwyn, BTS’s RM, or even Elordi, who became an official ambassador for the label last year.

Recently, when I caught up with Pedro Pascal’s longtime friend Colman Domingo ahead of this year’s Met Gala, the Oscar nominee told me that the newfound fame he’d achieved in his 50s has changed one aspect of his personal style: how he dresses up for travel.

“My airport style has changed,” Domingo said. “I shop better for airports, because people will always want a selfie. They’re watching you travel, and you have to look a certain way. I always have a really good pair of suede loafers and a good jacket. I look a bit more dialed-up when I go to the airport. It’s no longer just sweats.”

A nice pair of loafers? A good jacket? Sounds like Pascal may have heeded his pal’s advice.
