As details surrounding Liam Payne’s death continue to emerge, his friends, family, and fans have begun to share tributes to the late One Direction member, who died on October 16 after a fall from a third-story hotel balcony in Argentina.
“We are heartbroken,” Payne’s family, including his parents, Karen and Geoff, said in a statement to the BBC. “Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny, and brave soul.”
The statement continues, “We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time.”
Payne, who was 31, shares a seven-year-old son named Bear with his ex, former girl-group member Cheryl Cole. He also has two sisters, Nicola and Ruth.

Charlie Puth
Charlie Puth shared a photo of himself with Payne on Instagram immediately following the news of the singer’s passing. He did not include a caption; however, on his Instagram Stories, Puth wrote, “I am in shock right now. Liam was always so kind to me. He was one of the first major artists I got to work with. I cannot believe he is gone….” Puth and Payne collaborated on Payne’s 2017 single “Bedroom Floor.”
In a separate story, he shared a video of Payne gifting him a T-shirt, writing in the caption, “I am so upset right now. May he rest in peace.” Puth’s final IG story is a clip of an interview Payne gave in which he referred to Puth as “a firm friend of mine. I really like Charlie.”
