Itâs hard to believe we havenât had a Taylor Swift Met Gala moment since 2016âand even harder to fathom sheâs only been to the event six times throughout her prolific career.
Even so, Swift made each of her appearances at the Met Gala count, often using fashionâs biggest night to experiment with her classic look, as she did for âPunk: Chaos to Coutureâ in 2013. At the time she fully committed to the theme, opting for a black cutout gown by J. Mendel featuring web-like mesh panels. She even ditched her signature beauty look for a barely visible nude lip, piling on heavy black eye shadow to achieve the full punk effect.
Of course, her final Met Gala appearance was most memorable of all, between her brand-new Bleachella bob, knee-high strappy boots, and unexpected silver cutout minidress by Louis Vuitton. At the time Swift said she was going for âfuturistic gladiator robot,â which certainly fit that yearâs theme: âManus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.â
Alas, itâs been nearly a decade since Swift graced the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the first Monday in May, but fans are hoping thatâs about to change. After all, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce donât have any known scheduling conflicts that would bar them from attending the star-studded event after the end of the Eras Tour and football season.
Will this finally be the moment they make their red-carpet debut as a couple? We canât say for sure, but we can use this moment to reflect on Taylor Swiftâs past Met Gala looks from 2008 to 2016âand what she was up to some of the years she couldnât make it.
