Every Taylor Swift Met Gala Look—and Some Great Outfits From the Years She Skipped

It’s hard to believe we haven’t had a Taylor Swift Met Gala moment since 2016—and even harder to fathom she’s only been to the event six times throughout her prolific career.

Even so, Swift made each of her appearances at the Met Gala count, often using fashion’s biggest night to experiment with her classic look, as she did for “Punk: Chaos to Couture” in 2013. At the time she fully committed to the theme, opting for a black cutout gown by J. Mendel featuring web-like mesh panels. She even ditched her signature beauty look for a barely visible nude lip, piling on heavy black eye shadow to achieve the full punk effect.

Of course, her final Met Gala appearance was most memorable of all, between her brand-new Bleachella bob, knee-high strappy boots, and unexpected silver cutout minidress by Louis Vuitton. At the time Swift said she was going for “futuristic gladiator robot,” which certainly fit that year’s theme: “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.”

Alas, it’s been nearly a decade since Swift graced the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the first Monday in May, but fans are hoping that’s about to change. After all, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce don’t have any known scheduling conflicts that would bar them from attending the star-studded event after the end of the Eras Tour and football season.

Will this finally be the moment they make their red-carpet debut as a couple? We can’t say for sure, but we can use this moment to reflect on Taylor Swift’s past Met Gala looks from 2008 to 2016—and what she was up to some of the years she couldn’t make it.
