You may have noticed that former Vice President Kamala Harris has been laying pretty low since the 2024 election. But on April 30, she gave a speech at the gala for Emerge Americaâan organization that helps Democratic women run for officeâthat proved she hasnât given up the fight, and she doesnât want anyone else to give up either.
In one particularly memorable moment, Harris called on Americans to speak out, saying, âcourage is contagious.â
âPresident Trump and his administration, and their allies, are counting on the notion that fear can be contagious. They are counting on the notion that if they make some people afraid, it will have a chilling effect on others,â she said. âBut what they have overlooked is that fear is not the only thing thatâs contagious. Courage is contagious.â She added a call to action: âLetâs lock it in.â

While Harrisâs speech was uplifting, she also didnât hold back on her criticisms of Trump or his agenda, which she said was, âdecades in the making.â Harris said, âItâs an agenda, a narrow, self-serving vision of America where they punish truth tellers, favor loyalists, cash in on their power, and leave everyone else to fend for themselves.â She called out the Trump administration for âdisappearingâ American citizens without due process and coming after judges, as well as for the, âgreatest man-made economic crisisâ in modern history.
