Kate Middleton Just Broke a Long-Held Fashion Rule While Staying True to Her Classic Style

Just days after her highly anticipated Commonwealth Day appearance, Kate Middleton has reappeared in public with her husband, Prince William. On March 15, the couple attended a Six Nations Cup rugby match in which England and Wales were vying for victory. The outing is further evidence that The Princess of Wales is gradually returning to her busy schedule of royal engagements following cancer treatments.

Apparently very relaxed and smiling , the couple appeared from the presidential box at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, as the prince is the patron of the Welsh Rugby Union, while the princess is the patron of the English Rugby Union. Therefore, any result in the match was bound to be special and worth celebrating. And while seeing them together always causes a stir, it’s Middleton who captivates with her elegantly understated outfits, and this time was no exception.

Dressed in one of her signature coats, the Princess of Wales chose a navy blue military-style coat by Alexander McQueen featuring beautiful gold buttons at the waist (as a side note, the royal owns this same design in several colors). She paired her wardrobe essential with a turtleneck sweater and black suede heeled boots, thus breaking one of the most talked-about taboos in the fashion world.

And, okay, it’s not one of those looks that stands out for its vivacity or breaks too many barriers, but that’s exactly what makes it worth talking about. Within the elegance and restraint that characterize Kate Middleton’s usual style, she has dared to combine black and navy blue, two dark and similar shades that we’ve long been told to keep apart. Her choice doesn’t stray from the classic path, but adds that little touch of daring that makes it stand out. Impeccable and very Kate, it’s the perfect outfit to announce that the Princess of Wales is back.
